Circumcision with the Laser Method

There are several ways you can choose to perform circumcision, including ordinary circumcision using a scalpel and laser circumcision. Currently, more laser circumcision is chosen because it is considered superior to ordinary circumcision. Actually, the naming of laser circumcision is not quite right because this method does not use a laser beam. This method uses cautery or electric surgery to cut the skin of the penis. Cautery will cut the skin without causing bleeding because it has the nature of heat and immediately freeze blood on the skin. The circumcision method that uses laser light is actually the circumcision method with CO2 laser light. This method has the same effectiveness as electric surgical techniques, the results are also usually neater and the wound can heal faster. However, this laser circumcision method is not yet widely available in medical service facilities in Indonesia. Keep in mind, this method of laser circumcision or electric circumcision still requires stitches to tidy up the results of circumcision and make the post-circumcision wound heal faster. So, the circumcision method is actually similar to ordinary circumcision, only the tools used are different.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Laser Circumcision

Research has proven that circumcision using a laser has several advantages, namely:
  • Bleeding time is shorter and the wound heals faster than conventional circumcision using a scalpel.
  • The time required for the process is much shorter.
  • Better in appearance than circumcision with a scalpel.
All surgeries have risks, including laser circumcision. The following are possible risks that can occur due to laser circumcision:
  • Infection.
  • Pain after circumcision.
  • Bleeding after circumcision.
  • Local anesthetic reactions, such as bruising and skin irritation. Meanwhile, if done with general anesthesia, side effects can occur more severe drugs, such as dizziness, nausea, and respiratory problems.
To determine the best type of circumcision, you can consult further with your doctor. After undergoing a medical examination, the doctor will determine the circumcision method that is suitable for you. But if you have a preference for laser circumcision, you can convey it to your doctor.
